Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in
Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in
Chicago when she was in junior high. Her parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the
American School in the Middle East. Amy is the mother of two sisters: Betsy and
Lori, and a brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her
family and also independently. Both of them were teachers and were able to
travel and camp together each summer due to this. They've camped across every
state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy also went to Rwanda after the war in
1994 to help in relief efforts. Amy displayed her talent for art early when she
was acting in school plays, as well as taking part in writing competitions. In
high school, she was a promising athlete who won the very first 3200 meter
relay in Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she went back to
university and played many parts on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson's
"Fifth Of July” and later directing Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon”.
Amy was a Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with an
B.A. East Asian history, with the concentration in Theater. Following
graduation, she relocated to Chicago where she pursued studies in Improv at the
Improv Olympics, and acting at The Actor's Center. Shortly after graduation,
she was offered a permanent job on the soap series Another World (1964). In the
category of "Outstanding supporting actress in the Daytime Drama
Series", she was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable
roles have been those performed by women of strength, such as Alex Taylor in
Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in
Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New
York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She also
runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and works as a partner in
the company. Amy continues to pursue her passions on films and write.
