Katherine Bear Tur was born on October 26, 1983. She is an American journalist, author, and broadcast journalist, who works as a NBC News correspondent. Tur is anchor for MSNBC Reports which, since 2021 she has hosted Katy Tur Reports, which airs between 2:00 and 3:00 pm ET on weekdays on MSNBC. Tur also covers MSNBC's news outlets Early Today, Today and MSNBC Nightly News. Tur is the daughter of journalist Zoey Tur and Marika Gerrard. She attended Brentwood School (2001) and at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2005) with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. She is of Jewish descent. Tur was a reporter for KTLA. HD News/Cablevision. News 12 Brooklyn. WPIX-TV. Fox 5 New York. Tur then became a storm chaser for The Weather Channel's VORTEX2 staff. Tur began her career in 2009 at WNBC-TV in an NBC New York City local station. She was then promoted to the flagship NBC News network. In the year 2009 she was awarded AP's Best Spot News Award for coverage of the collapse of the crane that occurred in March in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. For NBC News she covered Cory Monteith's funeral, a motorcycle attack on an SUV , and the search to find Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Tur was the NBC News and MSNBC's embedded reporter during the 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign.
