Rochon Born at Torrance (a suburb in Los Angeles), is the daughter of Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos was her high school. She graduated in 1982. She graduated in 1986 from California State University Dominguez Hill (CSUDH) with an undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism, minoring in theatre and sociology. Rochon made a return to CSUDH during the 2016 commencement as a keynote speakers.

Ullerup performed the role of Julia Brynn in the 2006 remake of Battlestar Galactica, which was shown on Sci Fi Channel. In the initial two seasons on Sanctuary the actress appeared as Ashley Magnus until the character was deleted. Her departure led to heated discussion among fans. There was a desire to have the character back for a future episodes, but the show was terminated in 2012. Ullerup was cast in 2016 in the role of Bree O'Brien for Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup was the character Maggie Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact, the movie about the 2015 disaster. Since 2016, Ullerup is seen in a frequent part in the role of Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered films series.
